October 19, 2023 (MLN): Foreign direct investment (FDI) in Pakistan stood at $172.6 million in September 2023, registering a notable increase of 18.14% MoM and 54.1% YoY compared to $146.1m in August 2023 and $112m in September 2022, the latest data issued by the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) showed.
Within the direct investments in the review month, there was an inflow of $223.8m, up by 18.11% YoY, while the outflow dropped to $51.2m, down by over 33.94% YoY.
With respect to the portfolio investment under FDI, an outflow of $13.1m was witnessed through equity securities, as compared to an outflow of $5.4m in September 2022.
The foreign private investment into the country amounted to $159.5m in September 2023, which jumped by 49.62% YoY compared to 106.6m in September 2022.
Meanwhile, foreign public divestment stood at $3.7m during the review month.
Accordingly, the total foreign investment in the review month clocked in at $155.8m, compared to $106.9m in September 2022.
On a cumulative basis, within 3MFY24, FDI increased by 28.88% YoY to $412.03m as compared to FDI of $319.71m reported in the corresponding period last year.
