Cotton production plunges 64%

September 19, 2024 (MLN): Cotton arrivals in Pakistan plunged 64% to 1.434 million bales as of September 15, 2024, as compared to 3.934m bales in the same period of last year, according to data compiled by brokerage house Arif Habib Limited (AHL).

According to the breakup of the data, cotton arrivals from Sindh province stood at 895,000 bales, down 63% on a year-over-year basis.

Meanwhile, cotton arrivals from Punjab province, another key cotton-producing region, decreased by 65% to 539,000 bales.

Pakistan is among the top ten cotton-producing countries in the world, and cotton and textile products are among the country’s major exports. However, output still stands below expectations.
