February 4, 2019 (MLN): As of February 1, 2019, around 10.6 million bales of cotton arrived at various ginneries all over Pakistan. As compared to the corresponding period of last year, this quantity is short by 7.2%, since last year 11.4 million bales of cotton had arrived.

Based on data maintained by the Pakistan Cotton Ginners’ Association (PCGA), this is the third month in a row when the arrivals are short of their corresponding figures from last year. The last year on year increase in cotton arrivals was recorded in October 2018.

The data further tells us that 6.5 million bales of the total arrived at ginneries in Punjab while around 4.1 million bales arrived in Sindh.

This year’s arrival in Punjab was short by 10% YoY while that in Sindh was short by 2.5%, YoY.

The largest portion of the lot, amounting to over 9 million bales was sold to the textile industry while 100.9 thousand bales of cotton were sold to exporters. This leaves us with 1.5 million bales of unsold stock as on February 1, 2019.
