PKR gains 3 paisa against USD to close at 277.17

September 24, 2026 (MLN): The Pakistani rupee (PKR) strengthened by 3.10 paisa against the US dollar in the interbank market on Thursday, closing at PKR 277.17 per dollar compared with the previous session’s close of PKR 277.20.

During the session, the rupee traded within a narrow range, with an intraday high bid of PKR 277.20 and a low ask of PKR 277.15.

In the open market, exchange companies quoted the US dollar at PKR 277.70 for buying and PKR 278.25 for selling.

The local currency also gained ground against major international currencies. It appreciated by 92.24 paisa, or 0.29%, against the euro to close at PKR 315.66, compared with PKR 316.58 previously.

Against the British pound, the rupee strengthened by Rs1.77, or 0.48%, settling at PKR 367.05 versus PKR 368.82 a day earlier.

The PKR appreciated by Rs1.77, or 0.53%, against the Swiss franc to close at PKR 335.20.

Meanwhile, the rupee gained 0.61 paisa, or 0.35%, against the Japanese yen, closing at PKR 1.7505 compared with PKR 1.7566 in the previous session.

Against the Chinese yuan, the local currency strengthened by 4.80 paisa, or 0.12%, to close at PKR 41.29 from PKR 41.34.

The rupee also appreciated by 0.04 paisa against the Saudi riyal to close at PKR 73.82, while it gained 1.87 paisa, or 0.02%, against the UAE dirham to settle at PKR 75.46.

On a fiscal-year-to-date basis, the PKR has appreciated by 98.79 paisa, or 0.36%, against the US dollar. On a calendar-year-to-date basis, the local currency has gained Rs2.95, or 1.06%, against the greenback.

In the money market, the benchmark six-month Karachi Interbank Bid and Offer rates increased by 2 basis points, reaching 11.73% and 11.98%, respectively.
