Trump’s provocative social media posts undermine Israel-Iran ceasefire hopes

Departing early from the Group of Seven (G7) summit, Trump stated that the situation “certainly has nothing to do with a Cease Fire” and hinted at involvement in something “much bigger than that.”

That “something bigger” appears to be a potential escalation of conflict, particularly over the prospect of U.S. participation in the hostilities in the Middle East, as per CNBC.

In a direct threat, Trump targeted Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, calling him an “easy target” and urging him to “surrender.”

U.S. stocks dropped, while oil prices, which had been retreating on Monday, surged over 4% during Tuesday’s trading session in the U.S.

The negative market sentiment was further compounded by a weaker-than-expected U.S. retail sales report for May.
