Thal delivers solid 33% earnings growth
MG News | April 28, 2026 at 10:39 AM GMT+05:00
April 28, 2026 (MLN): Thal Limited (PSX: THALL) reported a robust 33.45% year-on-year expansion in profit after taxation for the nine months ended March 31, 2026, recording Rs8.32bn compared to Rs6.23bn in the corresponding period last year.
The company's basic and diluted earnings per share (EPS)
climbed 37.93% to Rs94.04, up from Rs68.18 in 9MFY25 showing meaningful value
accretion for shareholders during the period.
The primary driver of this profit expansion was top-line
growth that closely tracked the rise in direct costs, with the favourable scale
of revenue providing a solid gross profit foundation.
THALL's net revenue posted a 28.93% year-on-year increase,
rising to Rs30.19bn from Rs23.41bn.
Concurrently, the cost of sales grew at a nearly
commensurate pace of 28.84%, reaching Rs27.34bn.
This marginal cost discipline at the gross level allowed
gross profit to register a 29.85% expansion, settling at Rs2.85bn, up from
Rs2.19bn in the prior year.
On the operational front, the company navigated a broadly
elevated overhead environment.
Distribution and selling expenses rose by 29.15% to
Rs830.89m, broadly in line with revenue growth, while administrative expenses
expanded by 29.94% to Rs1.91bn tracking the scale of business expansion.
Other charges escalated by 57.40% to Rs65.53m from Rs41.63m,
showing heightened operational costs.
Other income, a significant line item for THALL, moderated
by 5.22% to Rs4.26bn from Rs4.50bn, providing a partial offset to the overhead
build.
The combined effect of these dynamics resulted in profit
from operations declining modestly by 5.11% to Rs4.30bn, compared to Rs4.53bn
in the corresponding period of the prior year.
Below the operating line, however, THALL benefited from
significantly improved financial dynamics on two fronts. Finance costs declined
by a meaningful 28.98% to Rs469.41m from Rs660.92m, showing a lighter
debt-servicing burden that proved a material tailwind to profitability.
More critically, the company's share of net profit from
associates after tax delivered an outstanding 37.86% surge to Rs7.27bn, up from
Rs5.27bn in 9MFY25, emerging as the single most consequential driver of
bottom-line growth during the period.
After netting these contributions, profit before levy and
taxation stood at Rs11.10bn, approximately 1.21 times the Rs9.15bn recorded in
9MFY25, representing a 21.39% year-on-year increase.
The levy charge for the period came in at Rs50.41m a sharp
84.36% reduction from Rs322.34m in the prior year providing a further
meaningful boost to pre-tax earnings.
Following this relief, profit before taxation reached
Rs11.05bn, a 25.25% increase over the Rs8.82bn reported in the corresponding
period last year.
The company faced a commensurately higher taxation charge of
Rs2.74bn, approximately 5.55% above the prior-year levy of Rs2.59bn, broadly in
line with the rise in taxable income and showing a contained effective tax rate
relative to the scale of earnings growth.
After accounting for taxation, Thal Limited successfully
closed the nine-month period with a profit after taxation of Rs8.32bn,
representing a 33.45% expansion over the Rs6.23bn reported in the corresponding
period of last year.
