October 02, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan’s judiciary has taken a major step toward digital transformation with the official inauguration of the E-Office system in the Supreme Court of Pakistan, alongside the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the National Information Technology Board (NITB) and the Law and Justice Commission of Pakistan (LJCP).
The initiative, spearheaded by the Ministry of
Information Technology and Telecommunication (MoITT) through NITB, is aimed
at introducing paperless operations, improving efficiency, and ensuring greater
transparency across the justice sector.
The event was attended by Chief Justice of Pakistan
Justice Yahya Afridi, Federal Minister for IT and Telecommunication Ms.
Shaza Fatima Khawaja, Justice Muhammad Ali Mazhar (Chairman National
Judicial Automation Committee - NJAC), Justice Shahid Waheed, Justice
Miangul Hassan Aurangzeb, and Federal Secretary IT Zarrar Hasham Khan.
Justice Ali Baqar Najafi also joined the ceremony virtually from Lahore.
The MoU was signed by the Secretary LJCP and the CEO
of NITB, marking the beginning of a collaborative effort to introduce a Judicial
Analytical Dashboard.
The platform will integrate judicial data, monitor case
disposal rates, track backlog trends, and strengthen institutional
performance through evidence-based reforms.
Following the signing, the E-Office system was
officially revealed in the Supreme Court, digitizing file movement and office
workflows.
A dedicated case management system for Judges will
also be rolled out soon to further streamline judicial processes.
Federal Minister for IT & Telecom, Ms. Shaza Fatima
Khawaja, emphasized the government’s commitment to technology-driven
reforms, stating:
“These initiatives reflect our commitment to building a
transparent, efficient, and technology-driven justice system. The Ministry of
IT & Telecom will continue to drive the Prime Minister’s Digital Nation
Pakistan vision across all sectors, including the judiciary.”
The launch of the E-Office system in the Supreme Court
represents a historic move toward judicial automation in Pakistan.
By digitizing records and introducing real-time monitoring
tools, the reforms aim to reduce delays, ensure accountability, and create a
more accessible justice system for citizens.
This initiative is expected to serve as a model of
digital governance, accelerating Pakistan’s transition toward a modern
and transparent judicial framework aligned with global best practices.
