Sugar to cost Rs165/kg as PSMA commits to govt price

July 16, 2025 (MLN): The Pakistan Sugar Mills Association (PSMA) has agreed to supply sugar at the government-notified ex-mill price of Rs165 per kg, paving the way for reduced rates in the retail market over the next two to three days.

The decision was reached during a high-level meeting chaired by Federal Minister for National Food Security & Research, Rana Tanveer Hussain, which was attended by the Chairman and senior members of PSMA along with officials from the Ministry, said a press release issued yesterday. 

Detailed discussions were held on enforcing the ex-mill price and ensuring an uninterrupted supply of sugar nationwide.

The PSMA appreciated the government’s decision and assured full cooperation in stabilizing prices.

Speaking on the occasion, Minister Rana Tanveer Hussain emphasized that the government is fully committed to providing relief to the public by making sugar available at affordable prices.

He warned that hoarding and profiteering would not be tolerated and stressed that strict implementation of the retail price would be ensured.

He further highlighted that an effective mechanism has been devised to curb artificial price hikes and maintain consistent supply, reaffirming that public interest remains the government’s top priority.
