Pakistan unveils major mining reforms at SPIEF 2025

June 20, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan positioned itself at the prestigious St. Petersburg International Economic Forum (SPIEF) 2025 as a rising hub for mineral investment by showcasing sweeping sectoral reforms and new policy initiatives aimed at sustainable development.

Speaking during a high-level panel on global mineral reserves and sustainable economic growth, Petroleum Minister Ali Pervaiz Malik presented the newly launched Mining Framework Policy, the completed feasibility study of the Reko Diq Mine, and the successful hosting of the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum in April 2025.

“Under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif’s leadership, we have introduced a future-focused framework that opens unprecedented opportunities in copper, gold, lithium, and rare earths, while maintaining a strong focus on environmental responsibility and community engagement,” he stated.

He emphasized that Pakistan has harmonized its legal framework in consultation with a renowned international legal firm, creating a transparent and secure environment for foreign investors.

The initiatives received a strong response at SPIEF, with several international mining companies expressing interest in exploring opportunities in Pakistan’s mineral-rich landscape.

Malik also extended a formal invitation to attend the next edition of the Pakistan Minerals Investment Forum.
