Pakistan targets top 30 in material innovation under Uraan vision

October 27, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan is set to advance toward a knowledge-based economy through the government’s Uraan Pakistan vision, which aims to build a strong national foundation driven by science, innovation, and technology-led development.

The initiative seeks to produce 5,000 specialized scientists and engineers in advanced materials and position Pakistan among the top 30 nations in material innovation, APP reported

This was addressed by Federal Minister for Planning, Development and Special Initiatives Professor Ahsan Iqbal during the International Symposium on Advanced Materials held at the National Centre for Physics.

The government emphasized that Uraan Pakistan would serve as a cornerstone for an economy rooted in research and innovation, aligning with global trends where nearly 70% of trade is based on advanced material products.

As part of the vision, the government is establishing the Dr. A.Q. Khan Institute of Material Sciences, envisioned as a hub for cutting-edge research, industrial collaboration, and talent development.

Under Vision 2035, five national R&D clusters in material sciences are planned, alongside 100 university–industry partnerships to strengthen the innovation ecosystem.

Reaffirming the government’s commitment to a knowledge-driven future, the minister urged universities, research institutions, and industries to collaborate closely to transform Pakistan’s economic landscape.
