October 11, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan has introduced a major economic diplomacy drive as Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb departs for the United States to attend the Annual Meetings of the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the World Bank Group.
During the six-day official visit, Pakistan’s delegation
will represent the country at the plenary sessions of both global financial
institutions.
The visit aims to deepen cooperation with the IMF, World
Bank, and other international partners amid ongoing economic reforms and fiscal
consolidation efforts.
The Finance Minister’s agenda includes high-level meetings
with key global financial stakeholders, including IMF Managing Director Kristalina
Georgieva, World Bank President Ajay Banga, and senior officials
from the International Finance Corporation (IFC) and the Multilateral
Investment Guarantee Agency (MIGA).
He will also attend a special dinner hosted by Ajay Banga
for finance ministers from selected countries.
At the G24 and MENAP (Middle East, North Africa,
and Pakistan) platforms, Minister Aurangzeb will deliver a keynote
address outlining Pakistan’s economic vision, structural reforms, and
strategies for regional cooperation.
A major highlight of the visit will be the World Bank’s
regional roundtable on digital tax transformation, where Pakistan’s Federal
Board of Revenue (FBR) will share progress on digitization and transparency
initiatives.
In addition, the Finance Minister will join sessions
organized by the World Economic Forum (WEF) and hold bilateral talks
with counterparts from China, the United Kingdom, Saudi Arabia, Türkiye, and
Azerbaijan to discuss trade, investment, and financial collaboration.
His U.S. itinerary also includes meetings with senior
officials from the White House, U.S. Congress, State
Department, Treasury Department, and the U.S. International
Development Finance Corporation (DFC).
Discussions will center on enhancing Pakistan-U.S. economic
cooperation and attracting new investments.
Minister Aurangzeb is expected to meet global credit
rating agencies, commercial banks, and investment groups from the
Middle East to promote Pakistan’s fiscal reforms and investment
opportunities.
He will also address several investment forums and
economic seminars to highlight Pakistan’s reform agenda and progress toward
sustainable growth.
Engagements with leading U.S. think tanks, including the Atlantic
Council and the Peterson Institute for International Economics (PIIE),
are also planned to strengthen policy-level dialogue.
Throughout the six-day trip, the Finance Minister will
participate in over 65 official meetings and events, including media
interactions with major international outlets.
The visit stresses Pakistan’s commitment to restoring investor confidence, expanding global partnerships, and positioning the country as a competitive emerging economy.
