November 24, 2025 (MLN):  Pakistan has proposed a formal cooperation framework with Bangladesh to deepen bilateral maritime collaboration, including joint shipping services, port facilitation, and coordinated engagement at global maritime forums.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry presented the proposal during a meeting in London with Brigadier General (Retd.) Dr. M. Sakhawat Hussain, Adviser for Shipping of Bangladesh, according to a press release.

The minister conveyed greetings from Pakistan and sought Bangladesh’s support for Pakistan in the IMO Category C elections, assuring reciprocal support for Bangladesh.

The proposed framework envisions joint container and bulk shipping operations between PNSC and BSC, technical training initiatives, cooperation on maritime safety, seafarer development, and mutual facilitation for port calls.

Chaudhry emphasized Pakistan’s broader objective of enhancing coordination with Bangladesh at platforms such as the IMO and ILO, arguing that closer alignment would strengthen both countries’ roles in shaping global maritime policy.

Reiterating Pakistan’s earlier offer, the minister highlighted the availability of Karachi Port Trust (KPT) facilities for Bangladeshi cargo, noting the port’s expanding capacity and modernization efforts.

He said that stronger port-to-port collaboration could ease logistics constraints and support regional trade integration.

To build sustained progress, Chaudhry proposed launching a Pakistan–Bangladesh Maritime Dialogue a structured platform for regular discussions on shipping, port development, the blue economy, fisheries, and emerging maritime issues.

Both sides agreed to pursue deeper maritime cooperation aimed at promoting regional stability, economic growth, and shared prosperity, pledging to maintain momentum and explore practical steps for implementing the proposed initiatives.
