Sweden’s SEB explores climate investment fund in Pakistan

March 12, 2026 (MLN): Skandinaviska Enskilda Banken (SEB), a Swedish financial institution, is exploring the possibility of setting up a multi-country climate investment fund in Pakistan.

The proposed fund aims to support projects in water, infrastructure, and energy sectors, promoting climate-resilient development and sustainable investments while mitigating risks for local companies.

The initiative is also expected to collaborate with the Green Climate Fund (GCF) to mobilise climate finance for projects in the country, APP reported.

The proposal was discussed during a meeting in Islamabad between Federal Minister for Climate Change and Environmental Coordination Dr Musadik Malik and Sweden’s Ambassador to Pakistan, Alexandra Berg von Linde.

The ambassador highlighted SEB’s focus on environmentally sustainable development and sought the ministry’s support, noting that it serves as Pakistan’s National Designated Authority for the GCF.

Dr Malik welcomed the initiative and suggested arranging a detailed meeting with SEB representatives to explore potential areas of collaboration.

The meeting also touched on broader climate cooperation, with both sides stressing the need for joint responses to global climate challenges, including glacial melt affecting the Arctic and Himalayan regions.
