Pakistan expands space presence with new remote sensing satellite

August 1, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan successfully launched its latest Remote Sensing Satellite from the Xichang Satellite Launch Centre (XSLC) in China, marking a major milestone in its national space program.

 The satellite, launched by SUPARCO in collaboration with the China Electronics Technology Group Corporation (CETC) and MICROSAT China, is planned to enhance Pakistan’s ability to gather high-resolution, real-time imagery for critical applications.

It is expected to play a transformative role in urban planning, disaster management, agriculture monitoring, food security, climate change analysis, and water resource management, among other fields, said a press release issued yesterday.

Furthermore, it forms a key component of Pakistan’s integrated Earth observation system designed to support sustainable socio-economic development.

Deputy Prime Minister Mohammad Ishaq Dar praised the mission teams from SUPARCO and its Chinese partners for their exceptional collaboration and technical excellence.

“This achievement reflects our commitment to leveraging innovation for a more secure, sustainable, and prosperous future,” he said.

Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal also congratulated the nation, stating on his official X account that the successful launch was a proud moment and a testament to the brilliance of SUPARCO’s engineers and scientists.

He added that the project not only strengthens Pakistan’s presence in space but also deepens the Pakistan–China “Iron Brotherhood” beyond the skies.
