Pakistan's marine bunkering push gains momentum at Gwadar

July 28, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan has successfully completed its second marine bunkering operation at Gwadar Port, marking another step in strengthening the country's capability to provide internationally compliant marine fuel services across all three of its major commercial ports.
The operation was
carried out by global energy trader Vitol through its bunker barge Marine
Ista, which supplied IMO-compliant Very Low Sulphur Fuel Oil (VLSFO)
produced by Cnergyico PK Limited to an LNG carrier.
The latest operation
follows Pakistan's inaugural marine bunkering service at Gwadar last week and
demonstrates that the port has moved beyond a one-time milestone to
establishing a consistent operational bunkering capability.
With the addition of
Gwadar, Pakistan now offers marine bunkering services at all three of its major
commercial ports Karachi Port, Port Qasim and Gwadar Port creating a nationwide
marine fuel supply network for international shipping supported by locally
refined VLSFO.
Marine bunkering is
considered a high-value port service that supports global shipping while
generating additional revenue for ports and the downstream energy sector.
Gwadar's strategic
location near key international shipping routes in the Arabian Sea is expected
to enhance its appeal as an alternative bunkering destination for vessels
operating in the region.
Industry observers
believe the successful completion of consecutive bunkering operations will
strengthen confidence in Pakistan's emerging marine bunkering ecosystem,
improve Gwadar's commercial standing, attract more vessel traffic, and support
the country's long-term ambitions to expand maritime trade, logistics and
energy services.
