September 02, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan has expressed strong support for President Xi Jinping's Global Governance Initiative (GGI) during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Plus summit held in Tianjin, China.

Speaking at the high-profile summit, PM Sharif described the Global Governance Initiative as a "historic step toward a stronger multilateral system."

Pakistan's leader emphasized that the initiative aligns with UN Charter principles and will make global governance more responsive to developing nations' needs.

"Pakistan expresses its resolve to support President Xi Jinping's landmark announcement to launch the Global Governance Initiative," Sharif stated during his address.

He declared Pakistan's willingness to actively participate in the initiative, which aims to address contemporary challenges facing humanity.

The Prime Minister congratulated President Xi Jinping on the successful conduct of the SCO Summit and praised the Tianjin Declaration, expressing hope that it will foster shared goals of peace and prosperity in the region.

Pakistan has reiterated its commitment to upholding the golden principles enshrined in the SCO Charter and the "Shanghai Spirit" by advancing peace, development, and connectivity across member nations.

Highlighting the urgent climate challenges facing developing nations, PM Sharif emphasized the importance of shared global responsibility in addressing climate-induced disasters.

He pointed out that underdeveloped countries like Pakistan face constant climate change impacts despite contributing less than 1% to global emissions.

"Global leadership needs to shoulder the burden - further inaction will lead to more loss of life and livelihood," the Prime Minister warned, calling for immediate action from the international community.

Pakistan's leader stressed the country's preference for dialogue over conflict and peaceful resolution of all disputes. During his address, PM Sharif condemned Israeli actions against Palestinians in Gaza, calling for an immediate ceasefire and resolution according to UN Security Council Resolutions.

Prime Minister Sharif welcomed Laos People's Democratic Republic as the newest Dialogue Partner to join the SCO family, highlighting the organization's growing influence in regional cooperation.

The SCO summit in Tianjin brought together leaders from member states to discuss regional security, economic cooperation, and multilateral initiatives aimed at promoting stability and development across Asia.
