Pakistan, U.S. explore rail investment to strengthen economic ties

August 22, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and the United States moved to deepen cooperation in the railway sector, with both sides discussing investment opportunities and modernization plans during a meeting at the U.S. Embassy on Friday.

The talks, attended by Federal Minister for Railways Muhammad Hanif Abbasi and U.S. Charge d’Affaires Natalie A. Baker, focused on strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing economic collaboration, and advancing development initiatives.

Abbasi emphasized that Pakistan Railways, which links all four provinces, was central to national progress and required substantial investment to support economic growth. He noted that the government was committed to a comprehensive modernization strategy for the sector.

Baker reiterated Washington’s support for Pakistan’s rail projects and expressed optimism about joint collaboration.

The two sides also reviewed the upcoming United Nations visit and other issues of mutual interest.

The meeting was seen as a step toward opening a new chapter in Pakistan–U.S. partnership.
