Pakistan, Netherlands discuss stronger trade and investment

July 28, 2025(MLN): Pakistan emphasized its focus on strengthening trade and economic
cooperation with the Netherlands as Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb
met outgoing Dutch Ambassador H.E. Mrs. Henny de Vries, acknowledging her
contributions to enhancing bilateral relations and encouraging further Dutch
investment in Pakistan’s economy.
During the meeting, Finance Minister
Aurangzeb commended Ambassador de Vries for her dedicated efforts in
strengthening the longstanding relationship between Pakistan and the
Netherlands.
The Minister also appreciated the positive
role played by Dutch companies in Pakistan, noting their contributions to the
country’s socio-economic development, said a press release issued.
In a wide-ranging discussion, both sides
exchanged views on matters of mutual interest. Senator Aurangzeb briefed the
Ambassador on recent economic developments, including Pakistan’s improved
sovereign credit ratings, a more secure environment, and rising investor
confidence.
He outlined the government’s economic
roadmap focused on sustainable, inclusive, and export-led growth.
The
Minister also elaborated on key features of the newly announced federal budget,
highlighting fiscal discipline through a controlled budgetary expansion of just
1.9 percent down significantly from the previous years’ average of 9 to 10
percent.
He emphasized a balanced approach to
increasing social protection and defence expenditure while cutting subsidies
and debt servicing costs.
Ambassador de Vries expressed appreciation
for Pakistan’s macroeconomic progress and welcomed the country’s current
trajectory.
She voiced optimism about Pakistan’s future
economic prospects and expressed hope that the nation would continue its path
toward long-term growth and prosperity.
The meeting concluded with Senator
Aurangzeb extending his best wishes to Ambassador de Vries in her future
endeavours.
