Pakistan records FDI of $220m in September

October 16, 2026 (MLN): Pakistan recorded a net foreign direct investment (FDI) inflow of $219.5m in September 2026, up 18.5% from $185.3m in the same month last year, according to data released by the State Bank of Pakistan.

During the month, gross FDI inflows stood at $292.7m against outflows of $73.2m, resulting in a net inflow of $219.5m.

On a portfolio basis, foreign portfolio investment (FPI) recorded a net outflow of $26.9m, bringing total foreign private investment to $192.6m.

Foreign public investment, entirely in debt securities, contributed an additional $2,891.2m, lifting overall foreign investment to $3,083.8m in September, against a net outflow of $361.5m a year earlier.

On a cumulative basis, FDI during July–September FY27 stood at $719.7m, up 19.9% from $600.4m in the corresponding period of FY26, indicating improving direct investment momentum.

Gross inflows during the period rose to $967.7m from $806.5m, while outflows stood at $248.0m versus $206.2m.

Meanwhile, cumulative FPI recorded a net outflow of $28.6m during 1QFY27, compared with an outflow of $121.5m a year earlier.

Total foreign private investment rose to $691.1m from $478.8m, while foreign public investment reached $2,960.6m against an outflow of $511.8m.

Total foreign investment climbed to $3,651.7m in 1QFY27, compared with a net outflow of $32.9m in the same period of FY26.
