November 17, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Jordan have reaffirmed their longstanding friendship and emphasized the need to further strengthen bilateral relations, deepen people-to-people contacts and enhance cooperation across multiple sectors.
The commitment came during a meeting between President Asif
Ali Zardari and King Abdullah II ibn Al-Hussein of Jordan at Aiwan-e-Sadr on
Sunday, where the Jordanian monarch was received with full state protocol as he
arrived on an official visit to Pakistan.
Both leaders reviewed the full spectrum of Pakistan Jordan
relations and discussed key regional and global developments, particularly the
situation in the Middle East. They stressed the importance of coordinated
efforts to promote peace, stability and security in the region.
President Zardari and King Abdullah II expressed complete
convergence on the Palestine issue, reiterating their principled stance on
post-war Gaza. They firmly rejected any forced displacement of Palestinians and
called for a Two-State solution based on pre-June 1967 borders, with Al-Quds
Al-Sharif as the capital of a sovereign and contiguous Palestinian state.
Highlighting their decades-old fraternal ties, both sides
stressed the importance of close cooperation in multilateral forums and vowed
to enhance collaboration in humanitarian and development fields. King Abdullah
II reaffirmed Jordan’s strong desire to expand partnerships with Pakistan
across various areas.
The meeting was attended by senior officials from both
countries, including Prince Ghazi bin Muhammad, Jordanian Deputy Prime Minister
and Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi, and Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Major
General Yousef Huneiti.
From Pakistan, First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari, PPP Chairman Bilawal
Bhutto Zardari, Senator Sherry Rehman, Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign
Minister Senator Ishaq Dar, and Minister for Climate Change Musadik Malik were
present.
Following the talks, a special investiture ceremony was
held at Aiwan-e-Sadr where President Zardari conferred the Nishan-e-Pakistan,
the country’s highest civil award, upon King Abdullah II.
In a reciprocal gesture, the Jordanian monarch awarded
President Zardari the Order of the Renaissance (Bejewelled Grand Cordon of Al
Nahdah) one of Jordan’s most prestigious honours bestowed on heads of state.
The ceremony was attended by Prime Minister Shehbaz
Sharif, Senate Chairman Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani, Army Chief General Syed Asim
Munir, Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmad Babar Sidhu, Naval Chief Admiral Naveed
Ashraf, cabinet members, and diplomats.
A state banquet was later hosted in honour of the visiting dignitary, marking a significant milestone in Pakistan–Jordan relations as both countries look ahead to deeper strategic cooperation and enhanced diplomatic engagement.
