Pakistan, Bangladesh end talks with trade, investment MoU

August 25, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Bangladesh have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for the establishment of a Joint Working Group on Trade, aimed at enhancing bilateral trade and investment.
The MoU was finalized during Federal Minister for Commerce
Jam Kamal Khan’s four-day visit to Bangladesh.
The agreement will link commerce officials of both
countries, enabling them to synchronize measures to strengthen economic
relations.
During his visit, the minister held meetings with the
Adviser for Industries, Adviser for Food, and Adviser for Commerce.
He also visited the Chambers of Commerce and Industries, a
ship-breaking facility, and a pharmaceutical plant to explore sectoral
collaboration opportunities, as per the press release issued today.
The minister further engaged with Bangladeshi economic and
commercial officials, including the Executive Chairman of the Bangladesh
Investment Development Authority.
He also held meetings with officials from the National Board
of Revenue, Bangladesh Bank, Trading Corporation of Bangladesh, the Ministry of
Civil Aviation, and the Trade and Tariff Commission.
The interactions with government representatives and the
business community highlighted a shared interest in expanding economic ties,
with the MoU marking a step forward in strengthening cooperation between the
two nations.
To
note, Federal Minister for Commerce Jam Kamal Khan visited Square
Pharmaceuticals’ management, toured facilities, and discussed expanding
cooperation in the pharmaceutical sector.
Pakistan and Bangladesh signed a landmark visa-free travel
deal for diplomats, agreed to revive the Joint Economic Commission after nearly
two decades, and formed new trade bodies to boost bilateral trade, investments,
and cooperation.
Both sides also expressed satisfaction over Pakistan’s rice
delivery under the 2025 MoU, highlighting it as a step toward regular
exchanges.
In
addition, Pakistan and Bangladesh agreed to revive their Joint Economic
Commission after nearly two decades, reaching agreements to boost bilateral
trade, investments, and cooperation.
Both sides welcomed the successful 50,000 metric tons rice
delivery under the 2025 MoU, announced a Joint Working Group on Trade and a
Joint Trade Commission, and discussed collaboration across agriculture, energy,
industry, and food processing.
Pakistan also invited Bangladesh to the FoodAg Exhibition
2025 in Karachi, with both countries stressing trade facilitation, tariff
reduction, and stronger regional economic integration.
Moreover,
Pakistan and Bangladesh signed a historic agreement allowing visa-free travel
for diplomats and officials for five years, marking a major diplomatic
milestone.
During discussions in Dhaka, Commerce Minister Jam Kamal
Khan and Adviser for Industries Adilur Rahman Khan agreed to enhance trade and
industrial cooperation.
The minister also urged Bangladeshi traders to import
cement, sugar, footwear, and leather products from Pakistan.
