Pakistan, Australia to boost energy, mineral cooperation

July 22, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan and Australia have agreed to strengthen collaboration in the energy and mineral sectors, aiming to deepen economic ties and attract foreign investment.

The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Minister for Petroleum, Ali Pervaiz Malik, and Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins in Islamabad.

Minister Malik emphasized that enhanced cooperation in the energy sector would contribute significantly to Pakistan’s economic development, as per the press release issued.

He encouraged Australian companies to invest in Pakistan and assured full government support for partnerships in the mining and energy industries.

He also highlighted key reforms introduced by the government to develop the mining sector, positioning Pakistan as an attractive destination for foreign investment.

Australian High Commissioner Neil Hawkins expressed that Australian companies are keen to explore opportunities in Pakistan’s mineral sector.

He praised Pakistan’s recent economic progress under Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, citing the current account surplus and ease in profit repatriation as factors restoring investor confidence.

Hawkins also proposed collaboration in mining training, suggesting partnerships between Australian universities and companies with Pakistani institutions to build technical capacity in the sector.
