October 30, 2025 (MLN): Strengthening Pakistan’s position in the global digital ecosystem, PTCL Group (PTCL & Ufone 4G) has signed a long-term Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the GSMA at GITEX Global 2025.
The collaboration aims to accelerate API innovation and enable
secure, standardized integration across telecom and other industries under the GSMA
Open Gateway Initiative.
The Open Gateway Initiative allows enterprises to
connect their digital services with mobile networks through Application
Programmable Interfaces (APIs), promoting faster, scalable, and secure
innovation.
In a major milestone, PTCL Group revealed the successful development and certification of two new APIs, Send OTP and Validate OTP on the CAMARA standard 1.0.0, built on Client Initiated Backend Authentication (CIBA).
These APIs, now certified under the GSMA framework,
will enable telecom operators and enterprises to access interoperable,
secure, and globally recognized authentication services, reducing fraud
risks and enhancing user experience.
Jafar Khalid, Group Chief Technology and Information Officer
at PTCL & Ufone 4G, said the achievement stresses the company’s commitment
to technological modernization. “By adopting the CAMARA framework, we’re
simplifying our integration ecosystem, improving agility, and accelerating
time-to-market.
This foundation enables deeper collaboration with
developers, hyperscalers, startups, and enterprises unlocking new business
models and driving sustainable digital growth.”
Jawad Abbassi, Head of MENA at GSMA, welcomed PTCL Group’s
participation in the Open Gateway initiative, noting, “By opening up network
capabilities through common APIs, PTCL Group is fostering innovation, enhancing
interoperability, and enabling next-generation digital services at scale. This
collaboration is vital to realizing the full potential of 5G, IoT, and emerging
applications.”
With this step, PTCL Group joins global leaders in
advancing the API-driven digital landscape, empowering local and international
businesses to build secure, intelligent, and connected experiences for users
across industries.
