PNSC to expand fleet to 15 ships by end of 2025

October 10, 2025 (MLN): The Pakistan National Shipping Corporation (PNSC) is set to expand its fleet to 15 ships by the end of this year, with three new oil tankers expected to join by December 2025.

The move aims to strengthen Pakistan’s maritime capacity and reduce dependence on foreign carriers, said a press release issued today.

Federal Minister for Maritime Affairs Muhammad Junaid Anwar Chaudhry has directed the PNSC to expedite the vessel acquisition process to enhance the national shipping fleet.

He stated that approval has been granted for the purchase of three new ships, to be named MT Karachi, MT Lahore, and MT Quetta, representing Pakistan’s major cities and maritime strength.

The minister added that the government has set an ambitious target to increase the PNSC fleet to 30 vessels by 2026.

To achieve this goal, new tenders have been issued for the purchase of 12 additional ships, which marks a major step toward strengthening Pakistan’s maritime trade infrastructure and ensuring greater national control over sea transport operations.
