September 04, 2025 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif is set to hold a meeting with Chinese Premier Li Qiang today to deliberate on bilateral cooperation and exchange views on regional and international issues.

The prime minister is currently on a six-day visit to China, where he will also meet Chinese Minister for Information Technology and Industry Li Lecheng.

The trip mainly includes participation in the SCO meetings and the Victory Day parade.

As part of his engagements, Shehbaz Sharif will chair the second edition of the Pakistan-China Business-to-Business Investment Conference in Beijing.

The session will review the outcomes of the first conference, held under his chairmanship in Shenzhen in June 2024, and lay down future plans.

The Prime Minister began his visit earlier this week by attending the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) summit, where he also met President Xi Jinping and other top Chinese leaders.

He joined world leaders, including Russian President Vladimir Putin, at the grand Victory Day military parade in Beijing’s Tiananmen Square, commemorating the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II.

The event showcased China’s advanced defense capabilities, including hypersonic missiles, unmanned sea drones and laser-based air defense systems.

Pakistan views China as a key strategic partner and the largest trading ally, with bilateral trade crossing $25 billion in recent years.

Chinese companies have made substantial investments in Pakistan’s energy, infrastructure, transport and telecommunications sectors under the multi-billion-dollar China–Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

On Wednesday, Sharif urged leading Chinese enterprises to expand their footprint in Pakistan, highlighting his government’s investor-friendly policies and commitment to sustainable economic growth.
