November 24, 2025 (MLN): Pakistan’s handmade carpet industry is seeking government and banking support to tackle export challenges and revive the sector, with leaders emphasizing strategies to increase international sales.

A six-member delegation from the Pakistan Carpet Manufacturers and Exporters Association (PCMA), including Chairman Mian Atiq-ur-Rehman, Patron-in-Chief Abdul Latif Malik, and senior members Usman Ashraf, Shahid Hassan Sheikh, Naeem Khokhar, and Muhammad Naeem Sajid, met senior officials of the State Bank of Pakistan to discuss issues affecting carpet exports.

They urged the bank to hold awareness sessions on new policies and regulations for both exporters and bank staff, APP reported.

The State Bank assured the delegation that all possible steps would be taken to address the concerns.

At a review meeting at the association’s office, PCMA leaders stressed ongoing efforts to resolve industry problems, including those related to the Torkham border, and outlined future strategies to boost exports.

The association also called on the government to reduce production costs, ensure availability of skilled workers, and provide freight subsidies.

Mian Atiq-ur-Rehman and Vice Chairman Riaz Ahmad highlighted three international exhibitions scheduled next year as prime opportunities for marketing and expanding Pakistan’s handmade carpet exports, urging immediate preparations for active participation.
