October 06, 2025 (MLN): The benchmark KSE-100 Index remained under pressure during intraday trading on Monday, hovering around 167,424.72, down 1,565 points or 0.93%, as investors engaged in profit-taking after weeks of strong gains.

The index traded within a wide range of over 2,000 points, touching an intraday high of 169,326.35 and a low of 167,245.57, with total traded volume at 324.83 million shares so far.

Market analysts attributed the correction to profit-booking across key sectors including commercial banks, exploration and production (E&P), investment companies, cement, and oil marketing, which collectively pulled the index lower by more than 1,300 points.

The most significant drag came from Engro (-223.49pts), Meezan Bank (-191.42pts), and Mari Petroleum (-166.71pts), while Fauji Fertilizer (+105.30pts) and Adamjee Insurance (+74.01pts) provided some intraday cushion.

Despite the pullback, investor sentiment remained broadly supported by improving macroeconomic indicators. In a key development, Pakistan recorded the fastest decline in sovereign default risk, according to Bloomberg, ranking second globally behind Türkiye.

During the previous week, the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) maintained a strong upward trajectory, with the KSE-100 Index gaining 41,797 points (33.27%) during FY25 to date and 52,298 points (45.43%) so far this calendar year.

At the time of reporting, market activity remained robust, with total market volume at 733 million shares and traded value near Rs34.4 billion, signaling continued investor participation despite short-term profit-taking.
