Iran will respect ceasefire if Israel does: President Pezeshkian

June 24, 2025 (MLN): Iran will not violate the ceasefire unless Israel does so first, said Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian.

The follows the announcement by U.S. President Donald Trump that a truce between Iran and Israel is now in place.

Trump urged both sides to adhere to the agreement, raising hopes of an end to the 12-day conflict.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed acceptance of the U.S.-brokered ceasefire, claiming Israel had neutralized Iran’s nuclear and missile threat, but warned of a strong response to any violations.

Prior to the ceasefire, both nations launched final strikes: Israeli attacks reportedly killed nine Iranians, including a nuclear scientist, while an Iranian missile hit a residential complex in Be’er Sheva, killing at least seven people.

Iranian state media reported the ceasefire took effect at 7:30 a.m. local time, though Tehran issued no official statement.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said Iran would halt its response if Israeli attacks stopped by 4 a.m. Tehran time, and noted a final decision on military operations was still pending.

This came after a limited Iranian missile strike on a U.S. base in Qatar.
