Iran tells US talks advance, no final deal yet

May 25, 2026 (MLN): Iran said ongoing talks with the United States have produced preliminary understandings on several key matters, though officials cautioned that a comprehensive agreement remains distant.

During a media briefing on Monday, Foreign Ministry spokesperson Esmaeil Baghaei said negotiators from both sides had made progress on a significant portion of the agenda, but emphasized that discussions had not yet reached the stage of a final deal.

Baghaei noted that the immediate priority of the negotiations is centered on de-escalation efforts and ending the current conflict, rather than addressing Tehran’s nuclear programme.

He added that Iranian authorities are pursuing diplomatic channels while also taking other measures to protect the country’s national interests.

The spokesperson further stated that Tehran remains cautious about Washington’s future commitments, arguing that previous experiences have left Iran uncertain about whether the US would fully implement any new agreement.

He also stressed that Iran would not alter its position under political pressure or threats.
