Govt weighs digital product passport for textile exports

August 13, 2025 (MLN): The government is set to explore the adoption of a Digital Product Passport (DPP) for textile exports, a move aimed at enhancing transparency, traceability and compliance in the global supply chain.

In a meeting with representatives of Octans Digital Pvt. Ltd., a subsidiary of Interloop Holdings, Coordinator to the Prime Minister on Commerce Rana Ihsaan Afzal Khan discussed environmental sustainability, waste management and recycling initiatives in the country’s textile sector.

Leveraged by his experience in digital innovation within one of Pakistan’s leading textile exporters, Khan examined both the opportunities and potential challenges of implementing the DPP framework.

Calling the initiative “brilliant” and “of primary importance,” he stressed the need for multi-stakeholder engagement and suggested the government may form a dedicated committee to assess the proposal in detail.

The discussions emphasized the growing role of public-private collaboration in advancing sustainable practices and driving innovation in Pakistan’s textile industry, a key pillar of the nation’s export economy.
