Govt releases Rs1.3bn for flood relief

September 6, 2025 (MLN): In a move to accelerate flood relief efforts, the government has released Rs1.3 billion to the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA).

The announcement was made by Law Minister Azam Nazeer Tarar during a discussion in the National Assembly on Friday.

The funding is intended for ongoing rescue and relief operations across the country, which has been severely impacted by recent floods.

Tarar detailed the devastating toll of the floods, reporting 884 fatalities, 1,181 injuries, and the evacuation of 2.1 million people.

In addition to the funds released to the NDMA, the government has also announced a compensation package for victims, including Rs2 million for families of the deceased, Rs500,000 for the severely injured, and Rs200,000 for other injured individuals.

The announcement came amidst a broader parliamentary debate on the flood situation, where lawmakers called for long-term strategies to combat such disasters, including the strengthening of local government systems and the construction of more dams to enhance water storage capacity.
