Govt pledges support for flood relief and tourism development in Gilgit-Baltistan

September 19, 2025 (MLN): The federal government has assured continued financial support for flood relief and tourism-driven development in Gilgit-Baltistan.

Finance Minister Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb met Chief Minister Haji Gulbar Khan in Islamabad on Thursday, for a meeting during which Aurangzeb emphasized responsible investment in the region, urging strict compliance with building regulations and environmental safeguards, particularly in waste and water management.

He highlighted Gilgit-Baltistan’s vast tourism potential and called for enhanced road and airport infrastructure to attract package tourism, especially from Gulf countries.

Chief Minister Gulbar Khan updated the Minister on ongoing development projects, noting that Skardu International Airport is already drawing significant traffic, while plans are underway to upgrade Gilgit Airport to international status.

He also outlined efforts to improve public services across the region’s 10 districts through increased staffing and career progression opportunities for officers.

The Chief Minister expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif and the federal government for prioritizing the needs of Gilgit-Baltistan.
