Government steps up relief in flood-hit KP, GB

August 19, 2025 (MLN): Government has intensified relief efforts in flood-hit areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Gilgit-Baltistan, Minister for Parliamentary Affairs Dr Tariq Fazal Chaudhry told the Senate.

Concluding a debate on a motion raised by Senator Mohsin Aziz, he said nine districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, including Swat, Buner, Mansehra, Shangla and Batgram, were the worst affected.

He noted that food, medicines, blankets, tents and generators were being dispatched on a daily basis, according to the press release issued.

The Minister informed lawmakers that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif would soon visit the flood-affected regions to review the relief operations.

He said the National Disaster Management Authority was coordinating with provincial governments, district administrations and international climate-monitoring institutions.

Giving an update on damages caused between June 26 and August 17, he reported that 657 people had lost their lives, 629 were injured, more than 2,400 houses were destroyed and nearly 1,000 livestock perished.

He added that provinces acted as first responders in such disasters, while the Federal Government extended support through the NDMA and special relief packages.
