October 23, 2026 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has pledged Rs 160bn from the Federal Government for development projects in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).

He vowed that the Centre will also ensure wheat is supplied to the province according to its requirements to avert any shortage, directing that it be sold to the public at the same price at which the Federal Government provides it, and warning against hoarding.

He promised all possible assistance and resources to strengthen the police, enhance counter-terrorism capabilities, improve police training and complete Safe City projects in the province.

The government will remove obstacles to ongoing federal development projects for timely completion, while the provincial government is expected to address impediments to provincial projects.

Voicing concern over rampant corruption and the slow pace of development in the province, he stressed that public funds meant for education, healthcare and the future of the younger generation must be used transparently for public welfare.

He cited a Rs 100bn drinking water project scandal and a Rs 37bn fraud in Kohistan, and pledged steps to curb corruption and ensure every penny allocated for development reaches its intended beneficiaries.

Shehbaz Sharif spoke at a gathering of the members of the Area Representative Development Council of KP’s tribal districts in Peshawar, along with Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, according to a press release issued.

He pledged that the Federal Government will work jointly with the provincial government, the Governor, the tribal advisory council and relevant institutions to bring development, prosperity and stability to the province.

Tribal elders expressed gratitude to the Federal Government for the opportunity to promote development and improve governance in their twelve districts.

The tribal representatives assured the Prime Minister of their full support in serving the people and bridging the gap between the public and the government.
