KP Excise makes biggest-ever narcotics haul with 960kg seizure

September 21, 2026 (MLN): The Excise Intelligence Bureau of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department has seized 960 kilograms of narcotics in Peshawar, marking the largest anti-narcotics operation in the department’s history.

The haul comprised 720kg of hashish and 240kg of opium, according to details released by the Excise Department.

The operation was conducted as part of the province-wide anti-narcotics campaign being carried out under the government’s zero-tolerance policy against drugs.

Provincial In-charge of the Excise Intelligence Bureau Aakif Nawaz Khan received confidential information about the transportation of a large quantity of narcotics, according to APP.

Following the intelligence input, three special teams of the Excise Intelligence Bureau were deployed in Peshawar around midnight.

The teams established a checkpoint near Jahaz Chowk and signaled a suspicious Toyota Revo to stop. The driver allegedly attempted to escape at high speed and opened fire at the Excise personnel.

During the ensuing pursuit, the vehicle collided with other vehicles and roadside structures, sustaining substantial damage.

The Excise teams continued the chase and intercepted the vehicle, bearing registration number SB-5069 (Sindh), on Double Road near Peshawar Ring Road. The driver allegedly continued firing before escaping under the cover of darkness.

The seized vehicle was later taken to the Excise Police Station in Peshawar, where a search led to the recovery of 720kg of hashish and 240kg of opium.

A case has been registered at the Excise Police Station, Peshawar, while further investigation and legal proceedings are underway. Authorities are also working to apprehend the escaped suspect and trace other individuals allegedly linked to the narcotics operation.

Provincial Minister for Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Syed Fakhar Jehan termed the seizure a major achievement for the department and praised the Excise Intelligence teams for their action.

The minister reiterated that the provincial government would maintain its zero-tolerance approach toward narcotics and continue taking action against individuals and organized networks involved in drug trafficking.

He said protecting the younger generation from drugs remains a key priority of the government, adding that intelligence-led operations against narcotics smuggling would be further strengthened across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
