September 04, 2025 (MLN): The Central Depository Company of Pakistan Limited (CDC) has appointed Mr. Aqeel Ahmed Nasir as Chairman of its Board of Directors.

This appointment brings three decades of distinguished legal and corporate expertise to the country's premier securities depository institution.

Mr. Nasir, who currently serves as Chief Legal Counsel & Company Secretary at United Bank Limited (UBL), assumes his new role with an extensive background in cross-border transactions, international arbitration, and regulatory affairs that positions him to guide CDC through Pakistan's evolving capital markets landscape.

The newly appointed chairman brings a wealth of board-level experience to CDC, currently holding multiple directorial positions across Pakistan's corporate sector.

He serves as Chairman of the Board of Directors at UBL Currency Exchange (Pvt.) Limited and maintains director positions at Kot Addu Power Company Limited (KAPCO) and Pakistan Railways Freight Transportation Company (Pvt.) Limited (PRFTC).

International Qualifications and Expertise

Mr. Nasir holds a Master of Laws (LL.M) degree from the prestigious Queen Mary College, University of London, and maintains dual legal qualifications as a Solicitor of the Senior Courts of England & Wales and an Advocate of the High Courts of Pakistan.

This unique international perspective is expected to enhance CDC's capacity to align with global best practices in securities depositories.

His expertise spans critical areas including corporate law, international arbitration, and regulatory compliance – skills directly applicable to CDC's role in maintaining Pakistan's securities settlement and clearing systems.

Corporate Governance Leadership

A certified Director from the Pakistan Institute of Corporate Governance (PICG), Mr. Nasir has demonstrated commitment to elevating corporate governance standards in Pakistan.

He played a vital role on the Task Force established to review the Corporate Governance Code 2017, contributing to the development of regulatory frameworks that govern Pakistani corporations.

Strategic Vision for CDC's Future

As Chairman, Mr. Nasir is expected to lead CDC's continued digital transformation and expansion of services to support Pakistan's growing capital markets.

The Central Depository Company serves as the backbone of Pakistan's securities market infrastructure, providing custody, clearing, and settlement services for equity and debt securities.

Mr. Nasir's extensive experience in both domestic and international financial markets positions him to guide CDC through these regulatory developments while maintaining the institution's critical role in Pakistan's financial infrastructure.
