Weekly inflation increases by 0.54%

September 01, 2023 (MLN): The Weekly Sensitive Price Indicator (SPI) for the Combined Group inched up by 0.54% WoW during the week ended August 31, 2023, while the SPI increased by 24.39% YoY compared to the corresponding period from last year.

According to data released by the Pakistan Bureau of Statistics (PBS) the Combined Index was at 277.21 compared to 275.71 on August 24, 2023, while the index was recorded at 222.85 a year ago, on September 01, 2022.

Out of 51 items, the average price of 20 items increased, 08 items decreased, and 23 items remained stable.

The weekly SPI percentage change by income groups showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 0.49% and 0.68%.

The Lowest Income Group witnessed a weekly increase of 0.68% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 0.49%.

On a yearly basis, analysis of SPI change across different income segments showed that SPI increased across all quantiles ranging between 21.29% and 27.31%.

Yearly SPI for the Lowest Income Group increased by 23.54% while the highest income group recorded an increase of 25.65%.

The average price of Sona urea stood at Rs3,805 per 50 kg bag which is 2.88% higher than last week’s price and 56.16% higher when compared to last year.

Meanwhile, the average Cement price was recorded at Rs1,177 per 50 kg bag, which is 0.15% higher than the previous week and 13.74% higher than prices last year.
