PM Shehbaz Sharif engages EU firms to boost investment

April 28, 2026 (MLN): Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday met a delegation of senior officials from the European Union and representatives of leading European companies at the Prime Minister House.
The delegation was led by Peteris Ustubs, Director (Asia
Pacific) at the European Commission’s Directorate General for International
Partnerships, and included Thourya Triki along with senior executives from
Adidas, Andritz, and IKEA.
The delegation is visiting Pakistan to attend the
EU-Pakistan Business Forum, while Raimundas Karoblis was also present during
the meeting.
Welcoming the participants, the Prime Minister thanked them
for their presence at the EU-Pakistan Business Forum and noted that the EU
remains Pakistan’s largest trading partner and the top destination for its
exports.
He appreciated the convening of the forum and expressed hope
that it would further strengthen trade and investment ties between Pakistan and
the EU, reaffirming the government’s commitment to facilitating business and
investment growth.
The Prime Minister also underscored Pakistan’s determination
to stabilize its economy despite regional challenges, including rising oil
prices linked to the situation in the Middle East.
He referred to his recent telephone conversations with
Antonio Costa, where discussions focused on regional security and enhancing
Pakistan-EU relations.
The EU delegation appreciated the Prime Minister’s role in
promoting peace in the region and acknowledged the government’s cooperation in
hosting the EU-Pakistan Business Forum.
Members of the delegation shared their investment
experiences in Pakistan and highlighted significant potential for expanding
business-to-business cooperation across sectors such as energy, communications,
and IT. More than 600 B2B meetings are expected on the sidelines of the forum.
From Pakistan’s side, the meeting was attended by Ishaq Dar,
Jam Kamal Khan, Azam Nazeer Tarar, Tauqir Shah, Bilal Azhar Kayani, Tariq
Fatemi, Haroon Akhtar Khan, along with other senior government officials.
