US announces another $10mn aid for flood victims

September 27, 2022 (MLN): United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken on Tuesday met with Foreign Minister Bilawal Bhutto in Washington DC where he announced $10 million aid for flood victims, a press release issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs showed.

As per reports, Secretary Blinken also urged FM Bilawal to engage with China on some of the important issues of debt relief and restructuring. He said that restructuring and relief can help Pakistan recover quickly from the floods.

Blinken’s pledge for $10 million is in addition to the already-announced assistance of $56.1mn.

The US has sent around 17 planes full of supplies like food and materials to build shelters, tents, tarps etc. in support of the flood victims.

US-Pakistan ties have been revived ever since former prime minister Imran Khan was voted out of his office. Since his ouster, the US-Pakistan senior leaderships have met at multiple forums.
