May 09, 2025 (MLN):Â Pakistan and India must cooperate to ease regional tensions, U.S. Senator Marco Rubio stated, reaffirming the United States’ commitment to fostering peace and stability in South Asia.
He made these remarks during a telephone conversation with Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, in which they discussed the evolving situation in the South Asian region.
The Prime Minister expressed Pakistan’s strong condemnation of India’s missile and drone attacks, which have resulted in the deaths of 31 civilians, injuries to 57 others, and significant damage to civilian infrastructure.
He asserted that these actions have infringed upon Pakistan’s sovereignty and territorial integrity and seriously threatened regional peace.
Sharif reiterated Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to defending its sovereignty and territorial boundaries, as per the press release.
He noted that the Pakistani public is deeply angered by what he called India’s unprovoked aggression and emphasized Pakistan’s right to self-defense in line with Article 51 of the UN Charter.
The Prime Minister also acknowledged U.S. President Donald Trump’s concern regarding the current security environment in South Asia. Both leaders agreed to maintain regular contact.
