February 20, 2025 (MLN): A tree plantation drive was launched at Islamabad Model College for Boys, as part of Pakistan’s ongoing efforts to combat climate change and promote a sustainable future.

The initiative was led by Coordinator to the Prime Minister for Climate Change, Romina Khurshid Alam.

The event, attended by students, faculty members, environmental activists, and key stakeholders, aimed to inspire the younger generation to actively engage in environmental conservation.

Participants enthusiastically took part in the drive, promoting awareness and contributing to climate action, according to the press release.

Addressing the gathering, Romina Khurshid Alam emphasized the vital role of trees in mitigating climate change and restoring ecosystems.

Our environment faces immense pressure due to deforestation, pollution, and climate change.

By planting trees today, we are securing a better tomorrow for future generations, she stated.

She highlighted the significance of the plantation drive in achieving the government's environmental goals and instilling a sense of responsibility among the youth.

"This is not just about planting trees but fostering a culture of environmental stewardship," she added.

The PM’s aide underscored that the campaign would expand green cover, reduce carbon emissions, and improve air quality providing sustainable solutions to Pakistan’s environmental challenges.

"Each tree planted today helps restore our natural balance and benefits both the environment and the community," she noted.

Romina Khurshid Alam further stressed that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader climate change program, which includes plantation drives, awareness campaigns, and sustainable development projects.

The program aims to empower young people with the knowledge and tools needed to take climate action and contribute to a greener future.

Students and teachers actively participated in the event, planting a variety of trees across the college premises with enthusiasm and commitment.

The initiative marks a significant step in Pakistan’s dedication to environmental preservation and sustainability.

By encouraging youth participation and community involvement, the tree plantation drive is expected to have a lasting positive impact on the environment and strengthen Pakistan’s efforts in addressing climate change.
