April 4, 2019 (MLN): Minister of State for Revenue, Mr. Hammad Azhar has announced that about 10,892 of income tax filers (2.2%) while around 3,126 sales tax filers (2.5%) will be facing an audit soon.

Addressing a press conference at a Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) ceremony in Islamabad today, he apprised that those filers who have already served notices will not be a part of this new audit.

He also shared the government’s plan to upgrade the value of property, adding that the launch of a new website for FBR is in the offing.

Commenting on the current economic situation, he remarked that lower tax collection is the ramification of an economy in deficit. The abolishment of tax on mobile phones resulted in a loss of Rs.60 million to the government.

He also said that the economy was facing trouble because of former Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, who he believed gave incorrect statistics on the economy. He even attributed 3 percent of the current account deficit to Ishaq Dar.
