Supply demand gap for DAP to be filled by imports through private sector

March 20, 2020 (MLN): DAP offtake during the month of February, 2020, was 88 thousand tonnes, which significantly increased by 80.3 per cent over February 2019.

During the Rabi Season, DAP offtake was 1000 thousand tonnes, showing a decrease of 9.0 per cent over same time frame of previous Rabi 2018-19.

Total available DAP was 560 thousand tonnes which included 533 thousand tonnes of opening inventory and 27 thousand tonnes of domestic production. Offtake of DAP was 88 thousand tonnes leaving behind 473 thousand tonnes of closing inventory.

DAP offtake during February, 2020 increased in Punjab, Sindh and KP by 96, 69 and 29 per cent respectively, whereas it decreased in Balochistan by 21 per cent as compared to February 2019.

Total available DAP during Kharif 2020 would be about 839 tonnes which will include 374 thousand tonnes of opening inventory, 420 thousand tonnes of domestic production and 45 thousand tonnes of imported supplies. Total demand of DAP is estimated around 956 thousand tonnes. The supply demand gap will be filled by imports through private sector.
