Spring plantation begins in Margalla Hills

February 13, 2025 (MLN):  In a significant step towards environmental conservation, the Ministry of Climate Change and Environmental Coordination has launched a spring tree plantation campaign in Margalla Hills National Park.

The initiative aims to enhance green cover, combat pollution, and promote sustainable practices by engaging communities in afforestation efforts.

The campaign was inaugurated at Trail 5 of the national park, where schoolchildren actively participated by planting fifty saplings, emphasizing the role of future generations in environmental stewardship.

The event saw participation from students, teachers, government officials, media personnel, and members of civil society organizations, reflecting a collective commitment to preserving Pakistan’s natural resources.

Chairperson of the Islamabad Wildlife Management Board and Secretary of the Ministry of Climate Change, Ayesha Humera Moriani, stressed the importance of trees as the “lungs of the environment” and highlighted the need for their conservation.

She urged all stakeholders, including communities and civil society, to contribute to a greener and more sustainable Pakistan, according to the press release.

With a vision to expand the plantation drive on a larger scale, the government aims to encourage nationwide participation.

This initiative seeks to ensure long-term ecological benefits and reinforce Pakistan’s dedication to environmental protection.
