May 05, 2025 (MLN): Small and Medium Enterprises Development Authority (SMEDA) Board of Directors, in its 30th meeting, approved the Implementation Plan for SMEDA Revamping.
The meeting, chaired by Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan, Special Assistant to the Prime Minister (SAPM) for Industries and Production, was attended by Mr. Saif Anjum, Federal Secretary Industries and Production, and Mr. Socrat Aman Rana, CEO of SMEDA, along with the Board members.
Mr. Haroon Akhtar Khan, while chairing the meeting, emphasized the Prime Minister’s vision for SME development and expressed satisfaction over SMEDA's fast-track progress in line with this vision.
He reiterated that the future of Pakistan’s economy lies in the growth and development of SMEs, and the Prime Minister is committed to raising Pakistan’s SMEs to international standards.
He also highlighted the hiring of international SME experts as part of the initiative, as per the press release.
The board discussed the formation of a committee by the Prime Minister to review SMEDA’s current structure and propose necessary changes for revamping the organization.
The goal is to make SMEDA a catalyst for the growth of the SME sector in the country.
In line with the Prime Minister's directives, the Implementation Plan for revamping SMEDA was presented, focusing on aligning existing employees with new outsourcing activities.
The revamping plan, initially presented by the revamping committee to the Prime Minister on April 9, 2025, included detailed discussions and deliberations.
The restructuring option, which involves outsourcing, was approved by the Prime Minister and has now been endorsed by the SMEDA Board of Directors in the meeting.
