SIFC EC to resolve long standing issue of KE tomorrow

December 10, 2024 (MLN): The 11th Sectoral Special Investment Facilitation Council (SIFC) Executive Committee Meeting, scheduled for December 11, 2024, will focus on resolving the long-standing challenges faced by K-Electric (KE). 

The meeting will also address critical matters across Petroleum, Minerals, Power, Aviation, Investment Projects, and Public-Private Partnerships (P3A), charting the way forward for Pakistan's energy and infrastructure sectors.

The meeting will also delve into pivotal national projects and policies, including:

• National Mineral Policy: Updates on harmonizing the legal and regulatory framework.
• Brownfield Refinery Upgradation: Discussions on post-Finance Bill 2024 strategies, CPL decisions, and UAE-based Mubadala's involvement in PARCO upgrade.
• E&P Policy Implementation: Review of CCI/Apex Committee directives and the sale of 35% gas from new discoveries.
• Pipeline & Greenfield Refinery Projects: Amendments for using equipment in new refineries like TransAsia.
• Offshore Oil & Gas Exploration: Progress in the bidding process for new exploration ventures.
• Pending Legal Cases: Updates on SSGC-related court cases regarding gas tariffs and revised bills.
• Port Qasim Terminals: Ensuring the operational continuity of Liquid and LPG terminals beyond current agreements.
• Rationalizing LNG Imports: Aligning imports with domestic consumption needs.

Additionally, the council will discuss hydel projects at the LOI stage, Cat-III wind and solar projects under IGCEP 2024-34, and the approval of the 7.8 MW Riyali Power Plant.

Updates on power sector transmission projects, such as the Ghazi/Barotha to Faisalabad West line, Matiari-Moro-Rahim Yar Khan line, and MVAR compensation devices, are also on the agenda.
