May 24, 2026 (MLN): President Donald Trump has revealed that the critical Strait of Hormuz will be opened as part of a sweeping Middle East peace agreement that is on the verge of formation, following intensive negotiations conducted in the Oval Office with leaders from across the region.
The development, stated on his Truth Social, emerged from call meetings with Saudi Arabia's Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman Al Saud, United Arab Emirates' Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Qatar's Emir Tamim bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani and Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim bin Jaber Al Thani, Pakistan's Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah, Turkey's President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, Egypt's President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Jordan's King Abdullah II, Bahrain's King Hamad bin Isa Al Khalifa, and Qatar's Minister Ali al-Thawadi, who discussed the final stages of a comprehensive Memorandum of Understanding aimed at resolving hostilities with Iran.
President Trump indicated the agreement has been "largely negotiated" and is awaiting finalization between the United States, Iran, and the participating nations.
The opening of the Strait of Hormuz, one of the world's most strategically important waterwaysrepresents a significant provision within the broader accord.
The strait's status has long been a point of regional tension and global concern due to its importance to international shipping and energy trade.
President Trump held separate discussions with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to refine the agreement's final aspects.
He indicated that additional components of the broader accord remain under discussion and will be disclosed shortly.
The diplomatic initiative brings together some of the Middle East's most influential powers around a unified framework for regional stability.
The convergence of these leaders signals substantial progress toward resolving long-standing tensions that have shaped geopolitical dynamics in the region for decades.
Following President Trump's announcement, Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif commended the U.S. President's diplomatic efforts on his X account, praising what he characterized as extraordinary initiatives to advance regional peace.
Shehbaz Sharif highlighted that Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir Ahmed Shah represented Pakistan during the high-level discussions and expressed appreciation for the military leader's role throughout the negotiations.
PM Sharif noted that the talks offered a valuable platform for regional leaders to exchange perspectives on the current geopolitical landscape and discuss strategies for advancing ongoing peace efforts.
He reaffirmed Pakistan's commitment to pursuing peace initiatives with sincere dedication and indicated that the country hopes to host subsequent rounds of negotiations in the near future, emphasizing Pakistan's pivotal role in regional diplomatic efforts.
