September 25, 2018: Leader of the House in Senate, Shibli Faraz invited the parliamentarians to come up with solid suggestions to address the matter of circular debt in the country on Tuesday, 25th September.

Addressing the Upper House of the Parliament on adoption of report of the special committee on circular debt, he said this was an important subject which was causing negative impact on the economy of the country.

“I undertook that responsibility as the issue was serious and there was a need to talk about things to address the issue of circular debt,” he said.

Rehman Malik had earlier stressed on the significance of this matter for all provinces and urged Federal Investigation Agency to probe the real culprit behind the electricity theft and piling up of circular debt

He said it seemed departments concerned were also involved in electricity theft as wind energy in Sindh had batter capacity than any other province to generate electricity.

Siraj-ul-Haq said supply of electricity should be ensured to the areas of Balochistan and mechanism should be evolved to address the issue of circular debt.

Nauman Wazir said the government had been working on the matter and added that 364 mini hydro grid stations had been installed in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa by the PTI provincial government in the province.

He said off-grid stations should be installed in all provinces as the stations installed by the past government were non-functioning.
