SECP registers record 2,409 companies in February with Rs2.7bn capitalization

February 08, 2023 (MLN): The Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has registered 2,409 new companies, bringing the total number of registered companies to 185,173 in February 2023, as per the statement issued by the commission on Wednesday.

This includes a record-breaking 174 companies registered in a single day. The capitalization of the newly incorporated companies was Rs2.7 billion.

The majority of the companies were registered as private limited companies (57%) or single-member companies (39%), while 3% were unlisted public companies, trade organizations, not-for-profit associations, or limited liability partnerships (LLPs). Nearly all of the companies were registered online. There were also 101 foreign investors registered from overseas.

The real estate development and construction sector saw the highest number of company formations (407), followed by the information technology (334), trading (321), and services (250) industries. Other industries, such as tourism, education, e-commerce, and healthcare, also saw a significant number of company registrations.

Foreign investment was reported in 62 new companies, with most investment coming from China (32 companies), followed by Canada and Chile (3 companies each). The SECP also integrated with other provincial agencies, leading to the registration of 2,255 firms with FBR and 40-41 companies with EOBI and Punjab Employees' Social Security Institution (PESSI)/ Sindh Employees Social Security Institution (SESSI), respectively.

Finally, the SECP launched a special WhatsApp service for inquiries, which received 895 inquiries and received a 91% satisfaction score from domestic and international investors.
