SECP approves regulatory relaxation for NBMFCs

May 23, 2025 (MLN): In a move aligned with its commitment to advancing financial inclusion, the Securities and Exchange Commission of Pakistan (SECP) has approved regulatory relaxation for Non-Banking Microfinance Companies (NBMFCs), allowing them to participate in the Government of Punjab’s affordable housing initiative, Apni Chhat Apna Ghar (ACAG).

This scheme aims to facilitate access to affordable housing for low-income households across the province, as per the press release issued today.

NBMFCs play a vital role in Pakistan’s financial landscape by delivering essential financial services to underserved communities, particularly low-income households in rural and remote regions.

Their offerings include microloans, livelihood support, and increasingly, affordable housing finance an area where conventional financial institutions often lack effective outreach.

Through this regulatory step, the SECP seeks to expand the impact and reach of NBMFCs in meeting the housing needs of marginalized communities.

The move is expected to enhance the capacity of these institutions to provide targeted, accessible financing for home ownership, while supporting SECP’s broader objective of fostering inclusive economic growth through improved access to financial services.
